Only slightly less important than sign rulership is when a planet is exalted, that is, in the sign of its exaltation. A table of exaltation is included in the diagram above. The very well-known astrologer William Lilly wrote that if a planet is in its sign of exaltation, in particular if it is in an angular house (1, 4, 7 and 10), it is said to be especially strengthened and may even give the possessor a haughty arrogance, one who “affirms more unto himself than is his due.”
